Thanksgiving rundown

Hope everyone had a enjoyable Thanksgiving. This year everyone in the family made something for dinner, except Ed who just showed up to eat.

The menu consisted of:

  • turkey
  • ham
  • shepherd’s pie
  • mac and cheese
  • chestnut stuffing
  • creamed spinach
  • brussels sprouts

We were going to have some asparagus too, but decided against it after seeing how much food we’ve already made.

Nova on the youtube

Ed uploaded a video of Nova dancing at a wedding a few months ago. Awwww!

Untitled clown drawings

Nova Elizabeth Leung. (American, born 2004). Untitled. November 2008. Pencil on stationary, 6 x 4 1/2″ (15.24 x 11.43 cm). Refrigerator gallery.

Unordered hierarchy of wants 2008

No one seems to know what to get me, so I’m trotting out a list again.

Taking of Pelham 1, 2, 3 soundtrack Never picked it up.

Third Man on Blu-ray That is, if it doesn’t get delayed again.

Subscription to Edge magazine Always wanted to get one, but it’s a pricey luxury.

Dinosaur BBQ Or any good food in the city, really.

Sleepwalk with Me I’d really like to catch Mike Birbiglia’s one-man show.

I lucked out on the GAF Secret Santa this year. One quick google search led to a gift that fulfilled 2/3 criteria my giftee listed in his post.

Rorschach’s Journal. October 31st, 2008:

Son, we just crossed the street

Preloading of the demo for pre-orders for Valve’s zombie-pocalypse magnum opus has started tonight. Early access to the demo unlocks tomorrow at 7am PST. For those living under a rock (Valve has been put significant funds into marketing it) here’s what to expect:

I love this game so much I want to take behind a middle school and get it pregnant.

And in unrelated (but equally awesome) news, Tim Schafer uploaded the puzzle/design document for Grim Fandango.

The dawn is coming

We’ve won the election, now comes the hard part.

I do love how die-hard Republicans on the net are glibly threatening to move to Canada. As the saying goes, “That’s not change, that’s more of the same.”

Go vote

This past Sunday, some of the noobs at the store started talking politics and none of them planned on voting. One of them went as far as to say that it doesn’t matter. Not in an “Obama has New York locked” kind of way, but more like, “It doesn’t matter who gets elected, because in the long term nothing changes and the world is going to hell in a handbasket.”

So what I’m getting at is, if you’re an idiot, don’t vote. But for the rest of us, do your civic duty. You’ll feel better when you’re done.

This year’s model

Spent most of the week piecing together my Rorschach costume for Halloween.

Got a lot of recognition on the street. One girl who was gushing over Rorschach. Possibly psychotic? Some strangers got pictures of Rorschach getting frustrated with his phone. It is worthless and unreliable, betraying its own spartan, conversive functionality.

Don’t have any good full-body pictures because Ed’s friend doesn’t know how to take a photo. Why are so few of us left active, healthy, and able to operate a simple point-and-click? Will update when Ed uploads his pics.

Make your own Muppet

The FAO Schwartz site has just launched theMuppet Whatnot Workshop which, for just 90 clams, will let you create your own Muppet. Not a stuffed doll facsimile, but an authentic, hand and rod-operated Muppet. How unbelievably cool is that?! Wished there were more customizable options, but it’s understandable why they’re limiting themselves to just several dozen features.

The in store experience will open on November 13th… just 17 days before by birthday. How convenient!

Tackling Palin on issues

Even if you’ve seen the footage before, watch it until the very end.

Rifftrax online?

As a test for exapanding to streaming media, Rifftrax are streaming a free track synced to an episode of The Incredible Hulk from Hulu.

I really hope they move forward with it because this is such a fantastic idea. Now you don’t need to borrow/rent a movie and everything is automatically synced up. The only problem is, with having a separate app syncing the audio, you’re at the mercy of whoever is providing the content. I know Hulu will occasionally retire some of their shows/movies. Maybe they’ll license movies to stream themselves?
